Day 6 - Bradfield Campground, CO to Moab, UT

Today was a day of sharp contrasts in topography. We started the day in the high desert, rode through a dense pine forest at ~10,500 feet and ended in the red slick rock terrain typical of Moab.

We left camp at 8:00 AM, gassed up in Dove Creek, CO and rode a combination of asphalt and graded gravel road to our destination in Moab. Near Geyser Peak Utah, we had a fun section of jeep trail and some very picturesque dirt roads through the forest. That little ~20 mile section was a lot of fun.

For my friends at PG&E; we road past a Helium plant in Dove Creek, CO. (Helium is a naturally occurring gas that is getting rare, and therefore expensive)

We met another group of 5 riders who had started the trail at the Texas/New Mexico border and were working their way West. We spoke with them for a few minutes and never saw them again.

We got to Moab at 11:30, just as Paul had finished shopping and was checking into Canyon Lands RV Park. We ate sandwiches in camp and headed out to the Slickrock mountain bike trail. It was fun to run the 9.5 mile loop, but was not something we would enjoy doing a lot of. It was slow, bouncy, and not that technical of a route for a motorcycle.

The rest of the day was spent washing clothes, cooling down in the crowded swimming pool, wrenching on the bikes, and hanging out.

While we were out playing, Paul was smoking a couple racks of baby-back ribs. They were outrageously good. Thanks Paul!

Tomorrow is expected to be a long day of riding and is expected to be hot, like it was today in Moab (95 degrees)

The following are pictures and video from the day:
