Moab is similar to Lake City in that it caters to power
sports such as ATVs, Razors and Jeeps as well as tours and power sports
rentals. The similarity ends there as the town was not as quaint as I expected
and the heat is at times unbearable.
The weather was
overcast, so we had a little break from the heat of the sun for most of the
morning.
We left Moab at 8:00 AM and had a very fun morning riding
the Trans American Trail as well as a hard Loop named Guy’s Trail. The Trans Am
Trail was mostly jeep road and gravel road through desert type landscape. We
stopped at Gemini Bridges (see pics) and then carried on to Guy’s Trail.
Guy’s Trail was mostly single track for 20 plus miles. We
rode about 15 miles and then took the highway to Green River for lunch and gas.
Guy’s trail was a difficult trail with stair step rock ledges going up and down as
well as many technical sections that challenged us. In addition to the trail,
we were battling the heat and heat exhaustion (one of the reasons we opted out
to take the highway). We had lunch in Green River at Arby’s and got gas, then
followed the Trans Am Trail through varied terrain, including deep canyon
riverbeds, to our destination at Devils Canyon.
We are camped in a dry camp/staging area for Devils Canyon.
The campground is at 6,500 feet, so we are escaping some of the heat and it is
a nicer camp than we expected.
Tomorrow, we plan to ride the Devils Racetrack (hard loop)
before taking the Trans Am Trail to out destination in Fillmore, UT.
The following are pictures and video from the day:
Beautiful Country!
